While many offices use all-in-one printers to print and scan, some require dedicated scanners due to the large number of documents that have to be scanned on daily basis. For small offices in need of a reliable scanner, the Epson DS-530 has an automatic sheet feeder that can scan pages at high speed.

There is an optional flatbed unit that can be attached to the bottom of the scanner to scan delicate originals. Moreover, the flatbed teams up perfectly with a slow mode feature to handle even more challenging media.

Features and Highlights

Epson DS-530

The Epson DS-530 has a daily duty cycle of up to 4000 pages. However, unlike the Epson DS-70000 that can hold up to 200 sheets at a time, this scanner only has enough room in its input tray for 50 sheets at most. This stripped-down paper capacity makes it less ideal for high-volume scanning, which is why offices which often scan hundreds of pages a day should use the Epson DS-7000 instead. It is more expensive, but it is well worth the price.

The scanner supports one pass automatic duplex scanning, which means that it uses an array of sensors to capture both sides of a page at the same time. This particular feature wouldn’t help much if you rarely scan double-sided pages, but it is certainly an impressive time saving feature if you rarely spend your days at work without having to deal with some double-sided documents.

Scan speed is approximately 35 pages per minute for simplex scanning and 70 images per minute for duplex scanning. Each image refers to each side of a double-sided page. These speeds are lacking compared to those of the Epson DS-7000 which can complete a scan job at a speed of 70 pages per minute or 140 images per minute.

In addition to the optional flatbed, the Epson DS-530 also comes with an optional network adaptor. This is the component that makes it possible for the scanner to be connected to a network so that it can be used by multiple users.

The Epson DS-530 also comes with an OCR functionality, which lets users save the scanned documents as searchable PDF files instead of images. Moreover, the scanned documents can be sent directly to a supported cloud storage. For example, if you’re a Dropbox user, then you can scan your documents to Dropbox.

While it is less formidable than the Epson DS-7000, with a duty cycle that allows the machine to scan up to four thousand pages a day, an optional flatbed, and a respectable scan speed, the Epson DS-530 is still a decent scanner for moderate-volume scanning needs.

This scanner unit connects to a computer via a USB 3.0 cable, which has been included in the box so there is no need for you to spend more money. After both devices are connected to each other, and the scanner’s power cord has been plugged in, the next thing to do is to install the driver.
