Torch Browser, which is built from Chromium’s codes, is another alternative you can try to explore the web. The graphical user interface is similar to Google Chrome with a few differences here and there.

The browser tries to stand out from the rest by introducing some extra features that do not normally exist in mainstream browsers: a torrent downloader, media grabber, music player, and a collection of games.

Features and Highlights

Torch Browser

Torch Browser automatically import bookmarks from your current browser without asking for confirmation. Before starting the installation, it provides options to replace your default browser and add its icon to desktop. Then, two more options appear after the installation is finished: to set the browser as the default torrent application and to use it to open videos and documents. There is no mention at all about importing bookmarks.

The new tab in the browser provides customization options to change the color of the background, add a custom wallpaper from your hard drive, display the clock, and display or hide the dock bottom panel.

The dock bottom panel includes Recently Closed, Apps, and Bookmarks. The Recently Closed lists recently visited web pages, the Apps contains Google Apps and Torch Apps, and the Bookmarks shows your bookmarked pages.

Torch Browser has some unique features that look good. Unfortunately, most of them do not work anymore or work partially since the browser seems to be abandoned already.

In addition to the common ways to close a tab–pressing Ctrl + W, using the context menu, or clicking the x button–Torch Browser can be configured to do it by double-clicking the tab. The option is in the Settings menu, grouped under the Tab Behavior section.

If you scroll down the Settings page, you will find the option to configure a download accelerator that the browser uses to speed up the download rate. It is enabled by default. The amount of connections that are used to download files can be increased up to eight connections.

Below the download accelerator is the Media Grabber section where you can change its behavior when you click the button on the toolbar. This media grabber is supposed to download videos but nothing happens when it was clicked even during a YouTube video playback.

The search button on the toolbar also doesn’t seem to function anymore. It is a pity because it seems that it used to be one of the features that the developer took a pride of.

Feature wise, Torch Browser offers a few things that set it apart from other browsers such as the media grabber and download accelerator. Everyone wants the easiest way to download videos and any possibility to increase download speed even just a bit is appreciated. Too bad that its development has been discontinued.

It can still be used to browse the web, though. Some extensions can also be added from the Chrome web store to further expand its functionality as a web browser. You can click the link below to download Torch Browser for Windows:
