The Canon iP3500 is a single-function printer running on four ink cartridges, which are a combination of pigment and dye inks. It can print text, but it is better at printing photos. Canon claims that the printer can produce photos that last for up to 100-year album life.

The printer supports direct printing from a PictBridge-compliant camera. This technology is more about convenience than anything else. If you aren’t in a hurry, however, you may want to print photos from a computer instead to get a better photo quality.

The Canon iP3500 feeds paper from two sources. The one on the back is called Automatic Sheet Feeder (ASF), which lifts to reveal a paper holder whose capacity is approximately 150 sheets of plain paper, ten envelopes, ten Photo Paper Plus Glossy, twenty Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss, twenty Photo Paper Pro, twenty Glossy Photo Paper, eighty High Resolution Paper, one Photo Sticker , or one T-Shirt Transfer.

The alternate paper source, which is located at the base and accessible from the front of the printer, has a capacity of approximately 100 sheets of plain paper.

The availability of these two paper sources makes it possible to switch between printing photos and documents anytime without swapping paper. They also provide a total capacity of 250 sheets to complete large print jobs, but the printer’s speed in printing documents and photos are only average at best.

The design of Canon iP3500 is a mix of silver and black colors. It’s a simple one with no control panel on its body. The front only has a power button to turn the machine on and off, plus a button that reveals itself after the output tray opens. This button is used either to resume or cancel a print job.

The PictBridge port that lets you connect a digital camera to the printer using a USB cable is also visible only after you open the output tray. The port is located on the front of the printer and positioned below the resume/cancel button. This particular feature comes handy when you need one or two digital photos to be printed out.

The front and back of the printer are as wide as 436 mm, with a depth of 302 mm, and a height of 145 mm. It’s not exactly a small footprint to share a desk with, so you may want to place it on a separate desk instead.

The printer is bundled with a software that has the ability to analyze photos and apply some corrections to make them look more beautiful.
