Unlike an all-in-one printer, a single function printer only has features that are related to printing. There is no scanner or even fax functionality, which should be a good thing if they are indeed unnecessary. As one of the single function printers, the Canon iP4500 has many likeable features to offer.

Features and Highlights

One of the most helpful features of the Canon iP4500 is its dual feeders for handling paper. This is a typical feature of Canon inkjet printers, but not for inkjet printers in general, hence it sets the printer apart from the others. The top-end sheet feeder holds 150 sheets of plain paper, and so does the pull-out tray at the front.

If you have a large print job that one feeder isn’t enough to finish it, you can load sheets of paper in both feeders, and then start printing. After the first feeder runs out of paper, push the button on the front of the printer to switch to the other feeder. The switching can be done automatically too so that the printer can finish the job without user intervention.

The auto duplexer is no less helpful. In fact, it is probably more helpful than the dual feeders. While the latter provides the convenience in terms of efficiency and productivity, the duplexer is both a time and cost saving feature.

It saves time because it prints double-sided pages automatically. There is a pause once the first side of a sheet is printed, but this is simply because the printer waits for the side to dry before resuming to print on the other side.

The Canon iP4500 requires five ink cartridges to print. The container for the ink cartridges is inside the printer. As mentioned above, the printer’s speed is faster than some comparable models. Printing a 5×7-inch photo, for example, only took about forty seconds to finish.

Its print quality, however, is good, especially for photos. As a photo printer, the Canon iP4500 successfully delivers on the promise of high quality photo. Also important to know is that the printer is supported by a technology that is claimed to be able to make photos last for many years as long as it is stored in an album.

While its automatic duplexer cannot print a double-sided page in a single pass, it is still much more convenient than doing it manually. And its print speed is also worth mention. It took less than two minutes to print a PDF file containing four long pages.
