The Canon iP1700 is yet another entry-level Pixma printer that sells for under $100. Despite being a really cheap one for a photo printer, it prints high-quality photos, which makes it a great budget buy.
It should be within expectation that a printer this cheap must be lacking some convenient features, and the Canon iP1700 does indeed missing some of them. Anyone who spends a lot of time on photography, therefore, would probably never use this printer unless budget is an issue.
Features and Highlights
At 17.2 inches wide, the Canon iP1700 can sit even on a small desk. The only gripe about its design is that it doesn’t include an output tray, so the desk should have enough depth to serve as the tray. However, there are at least two benefits that consumers can get from the the lack of the output tray. It helps reducing the price and weight of the printer a little bit.
The cheap price of the Canon iP1700 comes at the expense of convenience. There is no PictBridge port for direct printing, no card readers, and not even a monochrome LCD. That last one means you always have to depend on a computer to use the printer.
The printer has a simple auto sheet feeder at the back. It’s nothing more than a flap that fits up to 100 sheets of plain papers, or about twenty sheets of photo papers, when it opens.
As with the previous models such as the Canon iP1500 and Canon iP1600, this printer also employs one black ink cartridge and one tri-color cartridge. Both cartridges are priced the same, $25, but the print cost per color page is eight cents, while the print cost per black page is six cents.
Although the tri-color cartridge may be a letdown to some consumers, the print speed would probably not. It was revealed from a test that the print speed even rivaled that of Canon Pixma MP460, a midrange AIO photo printer.
Considering the price, the quality of the photo prints is quite impressive. It wouldn’t probably suffice to amaze a photo hobbyist, let alone a professional photographer, but the sharp details and the lack of graininess in photo prints make the Canon iP1700 a great choice for a low-end photo printer.
Text output is as impressive. While jaggedness may still be visible on closer inspection, the text still looks good. The graphics quality is also not perfect, but it is quite a steal for the price.

The Canon iP1700 comes with bundled software such as Easy PhotoPrint to help you select photos, apply a few basic adjustments to some photos, and print the selected photos. There is also PhotoRecord to create and print beautiful photo albums.
The one software that everyone should never forget to install is the driver. It is the most important piece of software because the communication between the printer and a computer depends on it. You can click the link below to download Canon iP1700 Driver for Windows:
