The Brother MFC-L2710DW is a fairly economical choice for a small office that requires a competent mono laser MFP that excels at high-speed printing. As long as print quality is not the main concern, the machine does a great job.

The mono printer has plenty to like. Although it is an entry-level MFP, printing is quick, and quiet to boot. Copying speed is also not a letdown for the money. It has a compact footprint, and it can be shared among multiple users via a wireless or wired network.

Features and Highlights

The Brother MFC-L2710DW’s print speed is rated at 32 pages per minute, which is reasonably cut in half when running in duplex mode. Duplexing runs automatically, so whatever multipage documents you print will be printed out more quickly.

Copying and scanning run faster thanks to the availability of the automatic document feeder which holds 50 sheets at maximum. However, unlike in printing, the ADF doesn’t support duplexing, so scanning and copying multipage documents will be a hassle since the pages must be flipped manually to copy or scan the other side.

The starter toner cartridge gives you enough to make 700 prints, but each replacement afterwards has plenty more toner for you to print as many as 1,200 pages, unless you decide to go for the largest capacity which, in addition to the 3,000 pages yield, will also save you a few more bucks due to the lower print cost per page.

However, even if you use the largest toner capacity available, the printing cost is still relatively high. The cost of printing 10,000 pages is more than enough to buy another brand new Brother MFC-L2710DW.

The printer’s recommended monthly print volume is 2,000 pages, but the high print cost makes it hard to follow this recommendation. The printer is therefore suitable only for low volume printing, at least for those who want to save money.

The other solution is to use generic toner brands which are usually much cheaper. The difference in print quality between the original toner and knockoff ones isn’t as worse as Brother would like you to believe, especially considering the fact that print quality is not the Brother MFC-L2710DW’s strong point.

In case you need to print a lot for a project, keep in mind that the printer is built to print no more than 15,000 pages per month. If you print more than the allowed number of pages, while it doesn’t always happen, the printer may get broken earlier than it is supposed to be.
