Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture 2024 is the 24th iteration of the CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. When it was released for the first time in February 1997, it was called AutoCAD Architectural Desktop. The original name remained until the 8th iteration was made public in March 2007.

As the name implies, the software is made for architects, with all of its features tailored to building design and documentation. It is built on AutoCAD platform, but it can be installed as a standalone program, meaning that you don’t need to install AutoCAD to use it.

Insert Blocks More Quickly

The advanced block objects in Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture are known as Smart Blocks. In the 2024 release, these blocks are more intelligent. When you place an object in a drawing using the Blocks palette, the block placement engine will offer a suggestion where it should be inserted.

The suggestion is based on the engine’s analysis of your previous placement patterns, helping you save time by reducing the number of clicks you need to make for placing objects. When a suggestion appears, you can accept it, switch to another suggestion, or ignore it.

Replace Blocks More Efficiently

When you need to replace blocks in Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture 2024, the block replacement engine can suggest the most appropriate blocks. You can also replace them with blocks you specify from your block library.

The replacement blocks are automatically adjusted to match the original ones, so you don’t need to manually update them. However, you are free to adjust the parameters if you think it is necessary.

It is possible to replace multiple instances of a block at the same time. In large projects, this can be a great time saving feature, as it can update selected blocks across the entire drawing in a few steps.

Enhanced Start Tab

The Start tab in the 2024 release can sort the recent drawings. A search functionality was also added to find drawings quickly.

When the grid view is enabled, you can sort the drawings by using the Sort By drop-down list. For the list view, in addition to the method, you can also sort it by hovering your mouse cursor over a column label and then clicking the arrow that appears in it. Note that the drawings you pin remains at the top of the list.

The other changes made to the Start tab includes column heading that can be customized, pin icon and open menu icon that appear when hovering over a drawing thumbnail, and navigation breadcrumbs that shows the current project path.

Although Activity Insights may not be as useful as block placement and replacement features, it is still a valuable tool. The data it collects can be used, for example, to identify issues that affect workflows significantly.

Some issues that cause the program to crash have also been fixed in the 2024 release, switching between drawings can be done by using the new file tab menu, Update Existing Text is added into the Markup Assist dialog box, markups can be hidden or ignored by using Fade Markup, and there are still other aspects of the program that have been improved.
