Rhinoceros is a long-standing 3D modeler. It features the NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) mathematical model to create and manipulate 3D geometry, providing precise control over the shape of curves and surfaces.

The computer-aided design (CAD) program is also known as Rhino3D or simply Rhino, designed to run on Windows and Mac operating systems. Its first version was released in 1998. Since then the company, Robert McNeel & Associates, has been releasing multiple versions, each comes with a set of enhancements to stay competitive in the CAD software market.

Features and Highlights

Rhinoceros

Quick Access to Commands

Rhinoceros has a good variety of keyboard shortcuts. Memorizing the ones assigned to the commands you use frequently can help you complete your tasks easier and faster.

Some of them are shortcuts that are commonly found in software, such as Ctrl + Z to undo the last action and Ctrl + S to save the project. The others are unique shortcuts like M to move selected objects, C to create circles, and L to draw straight lines.

As you continue using the modelling software, you may need more keyboard shortcuts. Should the need come up, you can create a set of custom shortcuts to further enhance your workflow.

Layers

The layer system in Rhinoceros can help you keep things organized and work efficiently by grouping related objects together so that you can working on different parts of a model separately.

Layers can make it easier to work with complex models, but they can also become a problem when there are too many of them, hence a search bar is added into the Layer Manager since Rhinoceros v8.

Add to that, you can hide or show layers. By hiding the parts of the model that you don’t need to edit, you can improve focus and efficiency.

The layers also come with a color coding system. By assigning colors to layers, you can easily distinguish various parts of your model.

Windows Layout

Starting from Rhinoceros version 8, you can customize the layout of the interface and save it as a new custom layout. By customizing the window to only show necessary element interfaces, you will be able to put more focus on the task at hand.

You can create different windows layouts for different project types or workflows. You can jump from one layout to another as you see fit.

On another note, Rhinoceros allows you to switch between light and dark themes. Combine this with the layout customization capability, and you have not only a clutter-free workspace but also a comfortable one, whether you work at night or during the day.

Rhinoceros Free Download for Windows

Rhinoceros is powerful, but it can be challenging to use due to its broad array of features. Users who have no prior experience with similar software will probably take significant time to learn the program.

That being said, the time spent on learning it is definitely worth it, as it offers a collection of powerful tools for creating and editing various 3D models. You can click the link below to download Rhinoceros for Windows:
