For many people, the prices of ink cartridges are ridiculously high. It doesn’t come as a surprise then that ink tank printers are more popular of a choice for cost effective printing.

Ink tank printers are typically designed to handle high volume printing at low cost. If you buy Epson L350, you get a printer with an ink tank and six ink bottles, each contains 70 ml of ink. Three of them are black inks, and the rest are color inks.

Features and Highlights

The whole body of Epson L350 is painted black, including the ink tank, which is refillable and easy to refill though caution is still necessary when performing a refill.

When the tank is unhooked from the body of the printer and then opened, four bottles can be found inside. The inks are stored inside those bottles. When the printer is about to print a page, it draws the ink from the bottles as much as necessary to be transferred to the print head which propels droplets of inks onto sheets of papers through the designated nozzles with a speed of approximately 33 ppm in draft mode.

To eject the ink droplets, the print head uses a method known as serial head method. One drawback of using this method is that the size of each ink drop affects the print speed. The smaller the ink droplets, more of them need to be ejected to print fill areas, and this means the print head has to work harder, which negatively impacts the print speed.

The company, Epson, uses a technology called as Variable Sized Droplet Technology (VSDT) to solve the problem. It gives the print head an ability to control the volume of each ink drops. Thanks to the technology, Epson L350 can produce high quality prints at a relatively high speed.

Instead of heating elements, Epson L350 print head relies on piezoelectric elements to eject droplets of inks. These elements change shapes when a voltage is applied. By controlling the voltage, each nozzle in the print head can eject droplets of inks in a range of sizes, and this is partly the reason why such a method is called VSDT.

In addition to printing pages, Epson L350 is designed to scan pages with a flatbed scanner powered by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to recognize and convert text in the scanned document into digital characters so that they can be edited in your word processing software.

Every purchase of Epson L350 is covered by a limited warranty for two years. If you are willing to register the printer, you will get an additional year of the warranty.

It is great to have a printer like Epson L350 that can spit thousands of pages for every single ink refill, but the placement of the ink tank could have been better. Instead of simply attaching it to the body of the printer, it should have been built into it. If that were the case, perhaps the body size of the printer would have been smaller.
