The Epson CX3900 is a multifunction printer packed with appealing features capable of delivering high quality output. Its paper capacity is very low, though, so it is more suitable for a micro office that don’t print often.

Print speed and quality are satisfactory. There are a few disadvantages that may make it less desirable for some people, but overall the Epson CX3900 is worth considering for those who need a decent all-in-one printer for low volume printing needs.

Features and Highlights

A printer can be considered as a good one if it has a reasonable print speed. Thanks to the combination of a number of advanced technologies, the Epson CX3900 can deliver about 23 pages per minute in black, 12 pages per minute in color, and a single 4×6-inch photo in about 94 seconds. The Epson CX3900 is also capable of producing high quality borderless photo at a resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi.

It is important to know that the numbers above are the rated print speeds. Even if you print pages in draft quality, there are chances that you won’t get the exact same speed. There are more than just one factor at play that affect the print speed as well as print quality.

The Micro Piezo print head technology is one of the factors that has a huge impact on print speed and quality. The print head has 90 nozzles for black ink and 29 nozzles for each of other colors. Due to the Micro Piezo technology, the print head can eject ink drops as small as 4 pl very quickly. Also, the ink drops are placed accurately on the paper.

The Epson CX3900 is not the type of printer optimized for high volume printing. This fact is obviously shown by the  paper handling system which consists of a single paper input tray that can only hold 100 sheets of A4 papers at a time. It should be plenty enough, however, for offices that print no more than dozens of pages on workdays.

As a multifunction printer that can also scan and copy documents, the Epson CX3900 has another disadvantage. It has a flatbed, but it lacks an automatic document feeder, so it will take a lot of time to scan pages if you happen to have many documents to be scanned.
