The Canon MF3010 is an excellent laser printer to print whatever document you need to print in black color. When it was released, it was one of the cheapest among the multifunction printers.

The cheap price means that customers won’t be able to enjoy some nice features such as automatic document feeder to scan or copy multipage documents, and duplex unit to print, copy, and scan double-sided documents without having to flip every page manually.

Features and Highlights

The lack of an automatic sheet feeder means that you’ll have to copy or scan every page manually with the flatbed, but it is a luxury that many people are willing to sacrifice to be able to own a very affordable printer.

The printer also offers a low print cost per page, which is a huge benefit that budget-minded buyers are craving for. The low cost is partly because of the fact that it is a mono printer, and mono pages that only require black color are cheaper to produce than full color pages.

Perhaps because the printer is cheap, its print quality leaves a lot to be desired, but it should be good enough for printing shipping addresses, invoices, handouts, and the like. As long as the printout is not for a prospective client, the print quality is just fine.

Wireless printing is also another handy feature that you should never dream of from a printer this cheap. There is no support for wired network either. All you get is a USB port to print from a desktop computer running on a Windows system.

On the upside, the Canon MF3010 is quick to print. The print speed is not the fastest one, but it is certainly a good speed so long as the printer isn’t used in a busy office with high volume printing needs.

Even more important than print speed for a personal printer is the first printout time (FPOT), which in this case is about 7.7 seconds for a letter size and 7.8 seconds for an A4 paper.

Most people that buy printers for personal use usually print only a few pages every month. Some people even don’t print at all for a couple of months. This low volume printing need makes print speed less important than how fast the printer can warm up and print the first page, and the Canon MF3010 is quite good at it.

While the Canon MF3010 is best for personal use, the printer can also be used in a small office as long as you and everyone else in it are willing to deal with the hassle caused by the lack of network support, which severely limit the efficiency of the printer.
