Brother announced the QL-800 series a few years ago, which include the Brother QL-820NWB. It is a highly capable label printer. Just like its predecessor, it comes with networking support, is easy to set up, and accompanied with great software.

The flexible labeler machine also comes with a large display, built-in cutter, and a set of features to facilitate label printing, such as the ability to print labels at 100 dpi up to 600 dpi. Keep in mind, however, that the print speed is affected by the selected resolution. The higher the resolution is, the slower the print speed will be. Additionally, while text quality is hardly distinguishable between each resolution for above 300 dpi, the graphic quality gets better as you choose a higher print resolution.

Features and Highlights

The Brother QL-820NWB is a small-size labeler yet rich in feature. It is approximately 4.9 inches wide, 9.2 inches deep, and 5.7 inches tall, with a weight of about 2.6 pounds, which is a tiny bit heavier than the Brother QL-820NWBc.

The flagship mode in the QL-800 series can be connected to the network either via Ethernet, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. It supports Wi-Fi Direct too, which allows direct connection between a mobile device and the label printer without a router as the middleman. And since it supports Ethernet, it means that the printer can be accessed from a PC. If the PC supports Wi-Fi, the printer can connect to it via the wireless network instead of the wired one. On the other hand, the box includes a single USB cable to directly connect the printer to a PC.

With the help of the built-in control panel, which includes a backlit LCD screen, the labeler can also be used in standalone mode as well. The labels that you design on a PC can be transferred to the machine, which has a memory capacity of 6 MB with 255 locations to save the frequently used labels so that you can use any of them again quickly anytime.

Aside from the LCD screen, the control panel also includes seven small buttons in total, each has a different function to operate the printer. Thanks to these components, you don’t need need a PC to use the machine. However, since the monochrome LCD screen is small, it is much more convenient to set up labels on a PC or mobile phone or tablet.

Brother includes powerful software to make best use of the printer. P-touch Editor, P-touch Address Book, and P-touch Update are parts of the bundled software. P-touch Editor is used to design labels, and the P-touch Address Book is intended to store mailing list data.

For those who prefer designing labels on mobile devices, Brother offers iPrint&Label. Although it is more like a stripped-down version of P-touch Editor, it is still a very capable one.
