The Epson L800 is an Ecotank printer optimized to deliver high quality photos with perfect color gradations. It features six colors, four of which are those commonly used on four-color printers, and the rest are extra colors which include Light Magenta and Light Cyan.

This all-black photo printer is cheaper to run than similar cartridge-based photo printers simply because it uses a refillable ink system. It is not a secret that ink cartridges are outrageously expensive. A lot of users like this type of ink storage more since it addresses their main concerns effectively, which is the printing cost.

Features and Highlights

Epson L800

The Epson L800 is as wide as 53.7 centimeters, and its depth expands from 28.9 centimeters to 57.1 centimeters when the printer is in use. Because of its large physical size, some users may want to place the unit on a separate desk instead of putting it side by side with the monitor on the same desk.

There is an ink storage on the right side of the printer. It contains six tanks. The total volume of original ink stored in these tanks is worth 1800 color photos of 4 x 6 inches or 9900 monochrome photos of 4 x 6 inches.

Unlike cartridges that have to be replaced when they have no ink left, each tank is refillable, but users have to make sure that each tank is refilled with the right color. If a tank is used to store black ink, then users must refill it with black ink too.

The L800 unit is one of the many Epson printers equipped with a MicroPiezo printhead capable of applying ink to papers at a maximum resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi. While printing at this resolution will cost more ink, the printer will be able to print photos at the highest quality.

Epson claimed that the L800 unit can produce photos with perfect gradations, thanks to the fact that it comes with an advanced technology enabling the color printer to eject ink drops in different sizes. The photo quality can be enhanced further by taking advantage of the automatic photo correction feature.

The rated print speed for the Epson L800 is approximately 37 ppm for black text, 38 ppm for color text, and 12 seconds for a draft-quality or 27 seconds for a normal-quality 4×6-inch photo. Your mileage may vary, of course, but these numbers allow everyone to compare the printer’s performance with that of other printers at face value.

Although it is marketed as a photographic printer, the Epson L800 can be used to print text documents too. Those who rarely print photos, however, would be better off using a mono printer instead since it can save more money.

The Epson L800 is not meant to be a network printer, so it provides only a USB port to connect to a computer. You may have to buy the cable separately, though, as it is not included in the box, unless you already have one. You can click the link below to download Epson L800 Driver for Windows:
