The HP Deskjet 1516 may look like nothing more than just a single-function printer, but those who are familiar with multifunction printers know immediately that it is not. The large top surface shows that it has a scanner inside, typically hidden underneath the cover.
The printer has a rectangular body with a matte white finish, complemented by a black paper tray input that gives it a nice touch of style. For a device that does a bunch of things, it is pretty compact in size.
Features and Highlights
Built for Daily Scanning
When it comes to scanning, everything has to be done by hand since the only available mechanism to feed originals to the scanner is the glass platen. So it’s not really a good option for handling a lot of scanning. In that case, a better choice would be an AIO printer that comes with an automatic document feeder (ADF).
Built for Regular Printing
With a paper input capacity of only 60 sheets of plain paper, the HP Deskjet 1516 is not designed to handle high volume printing.
The print speed and the recommended monthly print volume make it even more obvious. They are good enough for home use and may be for office too as long as the workload stays relatively light.
Occasional reports, invoices, or personal documents are fine, but it’s not meant to handle constant printing. Stick within its comfort zone, and it will keep up without much fuss.
Two Cartridges
Unlike many printers that come with four separate ink cartridges, the HP Deskjet 1516 only has two. The color configuration, however, remains the same: black, yellow, cyan, and magenta. The color inks are combined in one cartridge, known as tri-color cartridge.
Because of its flaw, which renders the cartridge useless when one of the inks runs out regardless of the others, the printer is not a good choice for heavy printing. But for light duty tasks, the overall running costs may be lower than those printers with ink tanks.
Printing via USB Cable
USB cable is the only method available to connect the HP Deskjet 1516 to a computer since it comes without wireless connection support, making it much less accessible. As a personal printer, it does its job well, but anyone who needs a printer in an environment where more than one person needs to access it, there are better printers out there.

The tri-color cartridge, modest recommended monthly print volume, low paper input and print speed, all of these features show clearly that the 3-in-1 printer is never meant for busy offices. The lack of wireless options also makes it less helpful, though it works just fine as a personal printer.
For anyone needing a device that covers basic home printing without overcomplicating things, the printer fits the bill. The control panel is simple, the connection relies only on USB cable, and it has a scanner that can save the trip to a print shop just to get some documents to be scanned.
