The Epson SC-P407 is an inkjet printer unit specialized in producing high-quality photo prints. It uses archival, pigment-based inks to ensure that the prints can last for many years to come.

Unlike some of those that are labeled as photo printers but only use four ink colors, the SC-P407 uses eight ink colors. The plus side of this many colors is that photographs are vibrant, but it costs more to maintain since you need to buy eight ink cartridges instead of four.

Photo Print Speed

The Epson SC-P407 can finish printing an A4 photo and A3 photo in approximately 68 seconds and 102 seconds, respectively. These print speeds are achievable thanks to the advanced printing technology which includes the piezo electric, Variable-Sized Droplet Technology (VSDT), and the number of nozzles, among others.

Ink System

The Epson SureColor SC-P407 features pigment-based UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 ink to deliver astonishing photo print quality. Among the eight ink cartridges, two of which are black photo black and matte black ink colors.

The printer switches between them automatically based on the selected media, so users don’t have to do it manually. By applying the appropriate black ink, the printer can achieve optimal print quality at a lower cost per page.

Other than the two black inks and standard inks such as magenta, cyan, and yellow, orange and red inks are also included in the ink set to improve skin tones.

Enhanced Print Mode

It’s not just the special ink formulation, the number of inks, the Micro Piezo print head, and the newly introduced Look-Up Table (LUT) method that enable the printer to produce superior print quality.

Enhanced Print Mode is also an important factor that contributes to the quality of the photo prints. To put it simply, it allows you to make some adjustments to your photo before printing to get the best result.

If you’d like to know how your photo looks like before you print it, you can preview the photo by using Epson Print Layout Manager to avoid making mistakes that could waste ink should it happen.
