The Epson L3100 tackles the need for a compact and light printer with an affordable ink system that lasts a long time. This unit also provides a letter-size scanner to handle occasional scan jobs.

Dressed in black, the printer’s design looks nice. Its performance, which is a more important factor in choosing which printer to buy, is also not disappointing for home-based offices.

Features and Highlights

Design

With a width of only 14.8 inches, the Epson L3100 takes less desk space than many other models in part thanks to the integration of the ink tanks that are placed below the scanner instead of on the side of the printer.

The ink tanks are inside a reservoir that extends about two inches beyond the front panel, but the thing that makes them look more eye-catching is their transparent windows. Design aside, the windows give a direct visual access to the ink level of each tank.

Scanner

The L3100 has a lid that sits adjacent to the control panel. It opens to a glass surface on which you can place an original for scanning. No automatic sheet feeder, unfortunately, which significantly impacts the efficiency of scanning multiple pages.

But it does support 1200 dpi for high-resolution scanning. As for scan speed, it is 11 seconds for monochrome scanning and 37 seconds for color scanning.

The unit can copy pages as well, with a speed of up to 7.0 ipm for black pages and 1.7 ipm for color pages. Additionally, the standalone mode allows you to make up to twenty copies.

Printer

With 180 nozzles for black ink and 59 nozzles for each color ink, the L3100’s print head runs at the speed of up to 10 ipm and 5.0 ipm for black and color pages, respectively. It’s not the fastest model, but is good enough as long as you are rarely in a rush.

Every time you need to print something, you can stack up to 100 sheets of paper in the rear-loading paper tray. Its capacity for photo paper is much lower but might not be a deal breaker unless you print photos more often than expected. On a side note, the L3100 supports borderless photo printing.

Be it a plain paper, a photo paper, an envelope, or any other paper, every single of them passes through the L-shaped paper path and exits the printer from the front where another paper tray is waiting to collect.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

Being able to print wirelessly is what makes the L3100 very attractive to users who don’t want to deal with cables, not to mention that it comes with the support for Epson Connect.
