We are now living in an era where we can send files to anyone merely at the click of a button. It is still not perfect, though. There are still restrictions on some aspects of files, like file size. Online services usually limits the size for file sharing, and this is one of the situations in which HJSplit may become handy.
Don’t let the name, HJSplit, deceives you. It is indeed capable of splitting a large file into smaller pieces, but that’s not the only thing it can do. The free software is also capable of comparing files, joining files into one, and generating MD5 checksums.
Features and Highlights
Since HJSplit doesn’t require installation, you can run it immediately after download. This portable software appears in the middle of the screen in a medium-size window, displaying six buttons which are neatly arranged below the big title of the software.
Each button represents different function. The Split button is used to turn a big file into smaller parts, the Join button shows a window in which you can combine files, the Compare button lets you compare the length of two files, and the Checksum allows you to calculate and copy checksum of a file.
The File Split window that shows up after clicking the Split button consists of three fields. The input field lets you select the file that you’re going to split, while the output field is where you can specify the destination folder to keep the smaller pieces.
The last one, located below the output field, is the field used to input some numbers to limit the file size of each chunk. If you type 100 KB in the field, then a single 400 KB file will be chopped into four chunks. The size units that are used include kilobytes and megabytes.
The File Join window is simpler to use. Select some files, choose a destination, and hit the Start button. If you want to join splitted files which have sequential numbers, just enter the first file into the input field. HJSplit will find the rest as long as they are stored in the same folder.
HJSplit can help generating the checksum of a file which you can use to determine if the file is corrupt or not. Click the File button to select a file, and click the Start button to begin the operation. It doesn’t take long to finish. You can copy the checksum by clicking the Copy button.
HJSplit Free Download for Windows
Aside from having a small size, HJSplit also loads fast on Windows. Additionally, being portable makes it possible for the software to be carried around by storing it on a flash drive.
According to the developer, HJSplit can split a large file even if the size is more than 100 GB. However, there is no mention as to how long it takes for HJSplit to split that large of a file. If you’re interested to find out, you can click the link below to download HJSplit for Windows:
