DFX Audio Enhancer can improve the sound quality at system level. After you tweak its audio settings, they will be applied to any software that renders audio. How much the improvement you can get depends on your skill in adjusting the equalizer.

You can use the software for free, but some features are locked. The lack of features isn’t surprising, but the fact that it is impossible to distinguish between the free and paid features can be quite annoying. Click the wrong one and it will pop up a notification window that basically asks you to buy the paid version. If this happens too often, you might wonder if the free DFX Audio Enhancer is actually worth the hassle.

Features and Highlights

DFX Audio Enhancer

When you install DFX Audio Enhancer, it asks your permission to collect the properties of your music library. It is mentioned that the collected data is to be used to improve the DFX products.

After that, it asks you again to submit an email address to receive product news from the DFX team. You can leave the field empty and click the Next button if you don’t want to give your email address.

Both the data collection and newsletter subscription are optional, so DFX Audio Enhancer will work just fine even if you reject both requests.

DFX Audio Enhancer cannot be minimized to tray. If you click its icon in the notification area, the main window shows up. But if you click the minimize button in the main window, a message appears saying that you have to order the paid version to be able to minimize it to the notification area.

DFX Audio Enhancer comes with a collection of presets, but only two of them can be used in the free version. The rest belong to the paid version. If you aren’t satisfied with the free presets, you will have to adjust the equalizers on your own and save it as a preset. Custom presets will appear in the preset list along with the others and can be used anytime you need them.

The software has a spectrum analyzer with up to 10 bands. At the lower part of the interface, there are five components to boost the sound quality. Each has a slider but only the Hyperbass that can be fully maximized. The Fidelity, Ambience, and Dynamic Boost can only be set up to 5. Dragging the slider further pops up an alert saying that you can’t do that unless you buy the premium version. The 3D Surround, on the other hand, is completely disabled in the free version.

DFX Audio Enhancer Free Download for Windows

While it is said that DFX Audio Enhancer is capable of enhancing the sound quality, you should not expect a miracle. Installing this piece of software alone won’t make a real difference to sound quality. That being said, it all comes down to your preferences. If it does improve the way you experience audio, then you can keep using it as long as you can stand with the nag screens that sometimes appear.
