Despite being marketed as a photo printer, the Epson R220 lacks photo-oriented features, but it does print well and use more colors than most all-purpose printers. Printing mono text, however, is not its strong point, so it’s not a recommended option for those who print text a lot.
In addition to the rear USB port to connect the R220 to a compatible PC, there is a front USB port to connect it to another external device. It also has two input trays, which include the rear tray to receive paper and the CD/DVD tray to print on the media. The latter supports both 8-cm and 12-cm CDs and DVDs.
Features and Highlights
Six Ink Colors
Buyers can expect more colorful prints from the printer because its six ink colors offer a wider color gamut. In addition to the four colors (CMYK) commonly used on printers in general, it uses light cyan and light magenta colors.
Each color ink uses a separate ink cartridge, so users can replace only the ones that run out. The six cartridges include black (T0481200), cyan (T048220), light cyan (T048520), yellow (T048420), magenta (T048320), and light magenta (T048620) cartridges. Every color is a dye-based ink.
Despite using individual ink cartridges, the printer is still fairly expensive to run that those who have already owned the printer may want to ditch it for an ink tank model after buying a few replacement ink cartridges.
Fair Print Speed
The Epson R220 is claimed to be able to deliver a 4×6-inch borderless photo in less than one minute and fifteen monochrome or color pages per minute. The actual performance in printing photos, however, is a mixed bag, unlike its output quality. While it is slow to print text, the print quality is good enough for internal use. On the other hand, its photo output is relatively great.
Why You Need Epson R220 Resetter
Ink pads are commonly used in consumer-grade inkjet printers to absorb excess ink, but most buyers would find out about their existence only after they need to be replaced, which is informed by the printers through a message.
Replacing the ink pads is a hassle but it needs to be done no matter what. On the other hand, resetting the ink pad counter is only a matter of a few mouse button clicks. The tool to do the reset isn’t officially available, but you can do it with the assistance of this Epson R220 Resetter.

The file size of this utility is less than one megabytes, but it is quite handy especially to reset the R220’s ink pad counter. After successfully resetting it, you should keep the utility just in case the same issue occurs again.
Although it is pretty unlikely for the new ink pad to reach its limit soon, it would be better to keep it somewhere in your PC or cloud account so that you can immediately use it when you need it. You can click the link below to download Epson R220 Resetter for Windows:
