If an internet connection speed suddenly drops, it is probably because the internet usage exceeds the bandwidth limit. It has been a common practice for ISPs to throttle internet speed once the bandwidth usage reaches a certain point. A software like Networx is useful to let you know in advance when your internet usage is about to exceed the limit.

Among its dozens of features, the most useful one is its ability to monitor every connection across a network and synchronize the reports. For example, if you have two computers, the bandwidth usage of these two computers can be reported in one place.

Features and Highlights

As long as Networx is still in use, it sits in the notification area. A mouse hover on it displays the current transfer rate, a single right-click brings up the context menu, while a double-click opens up a window where you can see the usage reports.

The reports are divided into several tabs. Per Day, Per Week, and Per Month are the tabs that display the bandwidth usage for current day, current week, and current month, respectively. There is also Custom tab to manually specify the dates.

If you are interested to find out which applications that connect to the internet and how much bandwidth each application has been using so far, click the Applications tab.

All of these reports can be exported to a file. The supported formats are HTML, CSV, or plain text.

An animated graph showing your current transfer rate is also displayed in the taskbar, but the graph in the taskbar is a feature only available in the installed version. The portable version doesn’t have it.

During the installation of Networx, you have to make sure that “Taskbar Integration” is ticked off. This is the option that allows you to show the animated graph in the taskbar. After the installation, right click on the taskbar, select Toolbars, and click “NetWorx Desk Band” to activate the graph. If there is text saying “NetWorx is not running”, it means that you have to run NetWorx for the graph to function.

NetWorx provides another way to show the current transfer rate in real time without sacrificing the taskbar space, which is precious for users who always open a lot of windows at the same time.

The alternative option is to display the graph above the taskbar in a mini window. It is a floating window that you can drag and drop anywhere across the screen. It has an adjustable opacity level and a click-through option that can be enabled/disabled with a shortcut key.

NetWorx is not the most sophisticated tool to monitor a network, but it is a very good one. You can use it together with other tools to make up for the areas where it is lacking. For example, NetWorx lacks the ability to block applications from connecting to the internet, but you can use the free Simplewall for this. Run the two software side by side to monitor and control your network activity. You can click the link below to download NetWorx for Windows:
