The Canon MG5770 is a 3-in-1 printer supported by an individual ink system that uses several ink cartridges. It is an easy to use unit, with support for wireless and PictBridge connections.

The inkjet machine measures almost 18 inches wide, 14.5 inches deep, 5.8 inches tall, and weighs 6.3 kg. It consumes 0.7W on standby, 0.2W if you turn it off, and 12W for copying pages.

Features and Highlights

Five Inks

Unlike the Canon MG6170 that uses six inks, this one only uses five, but each of them is also an individual ink cartridge. This is certainly a good news for users who dislike tri-color cartridges. The fact that it uses less colors also means that users will spend less money to buy the ink replacements.

A single pigment black cartridge (PGI-770BK) can yield up to 300 pages, while one dye black cartridge (CLI-771BK) is worth 1795 pages. As for the rest, the CLI-771C, CLI-771M, and CLI-771Y are worth 345 pages, 306 pages, and 347 pages, respectively.

Larger ink cartridges are also available for use if you are willing to spend more money. Although these are pricier, you might be able to save more money in the long run.

Duplex Printing

Considering how expensive an ink cartridge is compared to an ink bottle used by a tank-based printer, every chance to save money is a welcome. The Canon MG6170’s duplex printing functionality lets you spend a little less money on paper.

Many other printers also have the functionality to print double-sided pages, but not every printer can do it automatically as the Canon MG6170 can.

PictBridge

Moving or copying your photos from a digital camera to a PC for printing is not necessary if you use the MG6170. The reason is that the 3-in-1 printer supports PictBridge that allows you to print directly from your camera, and what’s more, you don’t need a USB cable to connect it to the printer because the connection can be established via a Wi-Fi network.

Performance

According to the MG6170’s spec sheet, the unit has a print speed of 12.6 ipm for black and white printing and 9.01 ipm for color printing.

It supports printing borderless photos as well, but printing such photos take longer to complete than printing photos with margins, let alone printing documents that contain text and graphics. For a borderless 4R color photo, the printer can print it in approximately 41 seconds.

Its 1200 dpi x 2400 dpi flatbed scanner has a scan speed of 19 seconds per A4 page at 300 dpi and a copy speed of 7.2 cpm. It can also produce up to 99 copies of a page at a time.
