Even if you don’t often scan or copy pages, it would still be nice to have a multifunction printer within reach. The Canon MP287 doesn’t have an automatic sheet feeder to complement its scanner, so it should be able to fit your need well.

4-Color Ink System

The MP287 uses PG-810 and CL-811 cartridges. The former is a pigment black ink cartridge that can produce up to 220 printed pages, the latter is a dye-based color cartridge–a tri-color one, to be precise–that can print up to 244 pages.

There are optional PG-810 XL and CL-811 XL ink cartridges for printing and copying more pages as well as reducing the printer’s downtime. Many people dislike tri-color cartridges because of its disadvantage, but it shouldn’t be a major issue if you don’t use one color much more often than the other colors.

Performance

Its print speed depends on more than one factor. According to the official print speed tests, the Canon MP287 is rated at 8.41 ipm for black pages, 4.81 ipm for color pages, 85 seconds for a 8×10-inch image, and 43 seconds for a borderless 4×6-inch photo. Its scan speed is approximately fifteen seconds for an A4 original at 300 dpi (dot per inch) and copy speed is 2.6 cpm (copies per minute). On a side note, the unit can create up to twenty copies in one go.

USB 2.0 Hi-Speed

The AIO unit can only connect to a computer via a USB cable. There is no support for neither wired nor wireless network, so it is a big no for consumers who need a printer to be used as a shared printer in a multiuser environment, but the lack of the network support helps reducing its upfront cost. Consumers have to deal with expensive ink cartridges, though, so an ink tank photo printer would probably be a better choice than this MP287.

About Canon MP287 Resetter

It would be a mistake to think that the ink is only required for printing. The Canon MP287’s cleaning cycles need ink too. The ink has to go somewhere after being used for cleaning, and the destination is the compartment where the ink absorber resides. How long it lasts depend on how often you run the cleaning routines.
