Its gameplay formula is basically still the same as the previous entries, but Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 has a number of things that make it stands out. They are not revolutionary changes but they do make the game more fun to play.

The game comes with a story mode that is perhaps a surprise to some fans, not to mention that it also includes a face scanning ability. The effort to deliver a richer experience becomes more obvious with the addition of another interesting feature called Freak Out.

Features and Highlights

Freak Out is a way to vent frustration after the player messes up a combo. It comes in the form of a bar with white lines. When it appears, pressing the appropriate button will cause the bar to fill up and the character will throw a tantrum as long as the bar is filled until a certain point.

The freak out function is one of the best additions in Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, but it is only accessible after the player bails in a certain way. It has six levels of tantrum and each level is represented by a white line in the bar.

If the player fills the freak out bar until the first white line, the character will kick the skateboard emotionally. The more the bar is filled, the more violent the character will react over the failure. The most violent reaction is headbutting the skateboard until it is destroyed. What makes it more interesting is that the player will earn some bonus points for the next combo after throwing a tantrum.

Focus is as new as Freak Out in the series. It gives the ability for the player to move in slow motion which increases the chance of executing absurd tricks without fail.

The free skate mode is still present in Tony Hawk’s Underground 2. Not only it is good for honing skateboarding skills, it is also a nice option for players who just want to have some fun without caring in the slightest about missions, tricks, and scores.

Aside from the Story Mode, the game also features Classic Mode. It brings back the formats that were introduced in the first, second, and third entries of the series. Longtime fans can try their best to complete the challenges as many as they can in two minutes. After they complete a certain number of challenges, the next level will be unlocked. This classic mode is also great for those who only want to get into action without having to waste attention to a storyline.

The Story Mode in Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 is offered in three difficulty levels. Those who want to play the game casually can choose Easy. Normal level is for anyone who doesn’t mind with more difficult challenges. As for the Sick level, which is the hardest one, only a veteran should take it.
