The game is full of puzzles which you and your partner have to solve one by one to unravel the mystery surrounding a man named Albert Vanderboom. To start playing, you need to choose to solve the puzzles either in the past or future.

Features and Highlights

Each of you will be transported to a different location. One in the future, and one in the past.

In every location, there are puzzles and clues that some are quite complicated they may be able to stump you and your partner a bit. That’s why you need to communicate with your partner during the game to share information that are obtained from examining the locations.

Two Chapters

The whole game is split into two chapters. The first chapter is The Bee, and the second one is The Butterfly.

The first thing you see in each chapter depends on whether you are in the past or future. Each timeline offers a different gameplay that makes the game even more exciting to play.

In each chapter, sharing information is the key to solve the puzzles. The information collected from the past could become an answer to a puzzle in the future, and vice versa.

Two Players

As mentioned above, two players are required to play The Past Within, but you can also play it by yourself if you can’t find anyone willing to play the game or just too shy to ask others to play it together.

To be able to play the game by yourself, you need to have more than one Android device and then install The Past Within on each. This means you may have to work harder to solve the mystery since you have to solve every puzzle on your own.

Cross-Platform

The Past Within is designed to run on multiple operating systems. It doesn’t matter which ones you use as long as you can communicate with your partner in solving the mystery.

It would be great if you and your partner are in the same room so you both can talk to each other directly. Communication is one of the main keys to success.

Playing with someone abroad, though, can sometimes make it difficult to communicate because not every puzzle is easy to discuss. If this happens, you can share photos of the puzzles with each other.

As you spend time on the game, you may encounter some unpleasant images, creepy moments, and eerie music. Hence, it is recommended not to play it at midnight.
