The Epson L1218 offers an adequate solution to print documents and photos at home. It is certainly not an MFP as there isn’t any sign of a flatbed scanner on the top of the printer.
It can only connect to a PC via a USB cable, so both devices have to be closed to each other, which should not be a problem for most home users who need a printer for personal use.
Features and Highlights
Space-Saving Design
Some printers in the Epson’s L series have ink tanks bolted to their sides, so their sizes are a little larger than cartridge printers with similar features. The Epson L1218 is different from them. It has a built-in ink reservoir that is placed in front. The part where the reservoir is positioned does protrude from the front to accommodate it, but overall the printer’s size is more compact.
Transparent Tanks
The design of the ink reservoir offers another advantage. It has four transparent walls, each of which is for a specific color. For example, the tank furthest to the left is for black ink. There is a text label above each of the transparent walls, letting users know into which tank they should pour ink from the refill bottles. The text labels also helps color blind users significantly.
Refillable Tanks
While cartridges are disposable products, tanks are refillable units. The latter can be refilled as many as necessary and stays permanently in the printer. It is also worth knowing that the lack of cartridges is the primary reason of the lower print cost.
Because the tanks are placed in front, they are easier to refill. The design of the ink reservoir makes it even easier since users can simply open the top cover to access the tanks.
Fix Ink Pad Issue with Epson L1218 Resetter
A clogged print head consumes a lot of ink to clean. There is a certain cleaning feature in the Epson L1218 designed to clean print head more thoroughly if the standard cleaning procedure fails to fix the issue, but it requires a lot more ink. A cartridge printer might need an ink replenishment within less than a year if you run this deep cleaning routine a few times.
Whether it is the standard or deep cleaning, both methods result in ink that is no longer usable and therefore sent to the ink pads that will absorb it. When the counter of these pads displays a certain set of numbers, the pads are considered full and the printer reacts to it by stopping its operation. The lack of any official tool to reset the counter drives desperate users to use Epson L1218 Resetter.

Despite many complains, Epson doesn’t provide what users need to reset the ink pad counter even though the task is simple enough that anyone can do it with a little knowledge and effort. The company’s endorsed solution is for users who encounter the ink pad issue to contact its support. If you don’t have time to do so, you should use this reset utility instead.
