Not everyone needs a printer that does everything. Some need simply a device that can print well, and that’s why single-function printers still exist. These printers strip back things back to basics, focusing entirely on delivering sharp prints. Among all the available options, there is this model called the HP LaserJet Pro P1102.

It doesn’t scan, copy, or fax. It just prints whatever it can print at the lowest cost possible. It’s an economical single-function unit, running only on a single cartridge, and paired with some cost-saving features such as Auto Off, EconoMode, and duplex printing support.

Features and Highlights

HP LaserJet Pro P1102

Less Paper Consumption

Every time you print only on one side of a sheet, you waste half of it. Paper is cheap, much cheaper than toner cartridges, but it is still part of the overall operational costs of the HP LaserJet Pro P1102, and it is also the next thing that the printer consumes the most after toner.

The easiest way to reduce paper usage is printing on both sides of the sheets. The single-function printer can do this, but you’ll have to do it manually, meaning that the pages need to be flipped by hand so that the printer can continue printing on the other sides. It’s a hassle, but it might be worth the effort.

Print Multiple Pages Per Sheet

Printing more than one page on a sheet can reduce paper and toner consumption. You can choose how many pages that need to be printed per sheet. The printer shrinks the pages and arranges them side by side or in a grid on the same sheet.

Print in Black

Unlike most printers, the HP LaserJet Pro P1102 doesn’t use color cartridges. It prints only by using a black cartridge, so it can only print in black and white. This setup offers some benefits. In terms of print costs, maintaining a single cartridge is cheaper than maintaining several cartridges that are usually used in color printers. The setup also slightly improves productivity since maintaining the cartridge takes less time.

Print at Higher Resolution

The HP LaserJet Pro P1102 supports FastRes 1200. This means the printer can print at higher resolution than its actual resolution, which is 600 dpi. It achieves this by manipulating dot placement on the sheet. The simulated 1200 dpi may not be as good as true 1200 dpi, but it offers a compelling balance between print quality and performance.

As a monochrome printer, the P1102 offers lower print cost per page than a color printer, largely thanks to its single cartridge. However, a cartridge is highly expensive, so it’s only suitable for light printing needs. If you print black and white pages in high volume, you should consider switching to a monochrome printer that uses ink tanks.

Whether the printer uses one or more toner cartridges, Windows won’t be able to recognize it without a driver, let alone sending instructions. You can click the link below to download HP LaserJet Pro P1102 Driver for Windows:
