Who doesn’t know Google Translate? This translator app is very helpful in overcoming language barriers, especially if you are visiting a country where English is not actively spoken. It’s also very useful for translating text from other languages into your own, and vice versa.
The thing is, even though you’ve been using Google Translate for years, you still haven’t fully explored the app. There are many interesting features that you may not have tried. Let’s find out here!
Features and Highlights
First released on January 1, 2010, Google Translate is still in use today. What are the highlights of this app? Check out some of its excellent features and must-try advantages below:
1. Conversation Mode
The Conversation Mode feature in Google Translate allows real-time two-way translation during a conversation. The system will detect the language spoken and translate it automatically. So the communication that occurs is more natural even if two people speak two completely different languages.
How to use it is very easy. Once the app is opened, select the language you want to translate. Click on the “Conversation” mode and start talking. If you want to see the translation in split-screen format, click the speech bubble icon.
To pause or resume the translation, click the “Speak” button. Interestingly, the translation is recorded, so you can view longer conversations.
2. Face to Face Mode
Face to Face Mode in Google Translate is a feature that allows users to have natural, live conversations with people speaking different languages.
This feature utilizes the phone screen to display the original text and translation. So, both sides of the conversation will easily understand through the screen.
It’s easy to use, just click the “Conversation” mode in the app, then click “Face to Face.” After that, select the language that you and the other person will speak, and start talking. When it’s your turn to speak, click the microphone icon. Your words will be instantly translated and appear on the screen.
The Face to Face feature will be more optimal for foldable phone users. You can use the screen on the inside and the other person sees the screen on the outside. So the conversation can really take place face to face, even though the language is different.
3. Offline Translation
Google Translate is most ideal when used with an internet connection. It is able to translate very quickly in multiple languages, so there is no language barrier.
However, it also offers Offline Translation which is very useful in areas with low internet connection. There are offline language packs that have access to specific languages, so it can still be used even if there is no internet at all.
4. Handwritten Translation
This feature may be rarely used in the digital age, but it’s still useful. Handwritten Translation is able to translate handwriting from various languages very well.
It’s almost the same as translating typed text. Of course, if you write letters that you’re not familiar with, it might be difficult to read. For example, if you’re writing kanji for the first time and it’s not perfect, this feature might have trouble reading it.
