Features and Highlights

James Sunderland is a widower. One day he receives a letter that makes him wonders if it is a prank but the handwriting gets him curious as he recognizes it as his wife’s handwriting. The letter also mentions their special place and the unfulfilled promise. Driven by his curiosity and guilt, he departs for Silent Hill without knowing what kind of experience the town has in store for him.

He meets a young woman who warns him about Silent Hill, a warning that he chooses to ignore. When he arrives at the town, a shocking sight welcomes him as it is no longer the beautiful town he has in memory. The whole town looks creepy, and soon later he finds himself fighting for life against frightening creatures over and over again.

The first humanoid monster appearing in the game is Red Pyramid Thing. It is a creature stands on two feet. Its face is hidden inside a weird helmet with a shape resembling that of a pyramid.

It wields two deadly weapons. The first one is the Great Knife which is a massive half-scissor. Despite being the signature weapon of the monster, it is obtainable later in the game.

The second one is called the Great Spear which is a long metal staff. Unlike the other, this weapon cannot be obtained. It first appears in Brookhaven Hospital being used by Red Pyramid to kill Maria whom James initially mistakes for his deceased wife.

Arguably scarier than the first monster is Bubble Head Nurses. They are weak but their physical appearances and the way they move, as well as the shrieks they emit as they approach you, are extremely scary. If you encounter more than one, they will surround and attack you. When you fight them, a gun is the best weapon. When there is no gun, grab a steel pipe.

Silent Hill 2 is a beautiful game for horror lovers and a fun game for those who want to put their courage to the test, but those who have a heart attack history should never succumb to the temptation to give it a try. Reading a walkthrough so that you know what to expect might be able to make the game a bit less scary, but you will likely to find yourself still holding breath during certain moments in the game.
