The Warriors is not about oppressed people fighting for justice. It is about gang life back in the old days of 1970s in New York City. Throughout the story, it centers on the struggle of a street gang in Coney Island after framed for a murder. The victim is a well-known gang leader so they have to deal with not only the police but also the other gangs.

The game contains many missions that must be completed, each has an objective from a simple task such as stealing items to a creative one like participating in a graffiti competition hosted by a popular spray artist.

Features and Highlights

The Warriors features several playable characters but only one player can be played in each mission. In the first mission, New Blood, you control the graffiti artist Rembrandt to fight multiple opponents for his initiation. The mission also serves as a tutorial where the game will instruct you on what to do, like which button to press to swing the fist, climb a fence, mug a person, rob a shop, etc. By the end of the mission, you are expected to be familiar already with some of the buttons and commands.

In the second mission, Real Live Bunch, you play as Warlord Cleon, the leader of the gang. The mission begins when one of the gang’s rivals, the Destroyers, throw a molotov cocktail into their hangout. What Clean must do is to gather the rest of the gang members to complete the mission. When Cleon moves, the others follow him automatically.

You will control Rembrandt again in the third mission. With the help of the radar that you can see at the bottom right corner of the screen, your mission is to find every Destroyers burner and to tag over the burner. A few gang members of The Warriors will go along with you for backup in case there are Destroyers members patrolling around.

The fourth mission is where you play as Vermin. Together with Ash and Snow, the three gang members are going to have fun in a club but stranded in Riverside because of a sudden blackout. A riot takes place in the city, so they decide to join in the fun. They rob the shops, destroy the cars and shops, and steal money, which last until the policemen arrive at the scene.

Real Heavy Rep is another mission where you have to battle another gang called The Orphans. There is a false report saying that The Warriors are beaten up by The Orphans, so the gang decides to a visit the rival to find out who the stronger is between the two.

Overall there are eighteen story missions, plus some bonus missions. The first mission is named New Blood, while the last one is Come Out to Play. The longest one is the fourteenth mission as there are seven checkpoints in total.

Each mission will reward you with something after you complete it, such as new characters and an arcade machine. During the game, there are on-screen guides and instructions that tell you what you have to do to achieve a purpose.
