Tekken 4 begins its debut as an arcade game in 2001 before it was eventually released for PlayStation 2 consoles in the next year. The fourth installment introduced significant changes to its gameplay. Despite the mixed responses to the changes, the game has earned many compliments for its attention to detail, among other things.

In Tekken 4, there are many returning characters, namely Bryan Fury, Eddy Gordo, Hwoarang, Kazuya, King, Heihachi Mishima, Jin, Julia, Law, Panda, Paul, Nina, Yoshimitsu, and others.

Features and Highlights

In addition to the returning characters, Tekken 4 features six new characters, three of which are unlockable. They are Christie Monteiro, Combot, Steve Fox, Marduk, Violet, and Miharu Hirano.

Christie Monteiro is one of the two female characters that makes their first appearances in Tekken 4. She is a Brazillian woman whose grandfather is a legendary figure in the world of Capoeira, but she learns the martial art from his friend Eddy rather than her grandfather. Some of her deadly moves are Cabra Macaco Throw, Left Jab Island Mirage to Negativa, and Satellite Moon Hot Plate Special.

Miharu Hirano is another female character in Tekken 4. An unlockable one. She is an energetic Japanese girl with a short hair and warm personality. Her fighting style is heavily influenced by that of her best friend Ling Xiaoyu. Some of her moves are Dump the Bucket, So Shoe Me, Rain Dance to High Mid Parry, Fan Dance to Pushing Hands, and Crescent Moon Kick to Phoenix. These are powerful moves but how much effective they are depend on how the player uses them.

Driven by a desire to uncover the truth about his past, and left with no choice by the Mafia’s persistent pursuit, Steve Fox enters the tournament after living his life on the run. As a boxer, he tends to rely on his boxing skills, but he also uses elbows and feet in the tournament to adapt to the fighting styles of his opponents who use varied martial arts.

Marduk is a problematic character who has to go through a 10 years sentence in prison for a murder, but he is released early. It turns out that the one who help him is the student of the person he has killed. The purpose is to be able to kill Marduk for revenge by his own hands in the tournament.

One of the returning players in Tekken 4 is Ling Xiaoyu, a Chinese girl who is proficient in martial arts. She is motivated to participate in the tournament in the hope of reuniting with Jin Kazama, a close friend of hers who won the fifth tournament but has been missing.

There are two nonhuman characters in Tekken 4. They are Panda and Combot. Panda is Ling Xiaoyu’s pet and best friend. She is very intelligent that one might suspect that it were a human disguised as a Panda. On the other hand, Combot is a robot capable of performing various tasks but mainly built to be a perfect fighting machine which is armed with an ability to learn how its opponents fight.
