SSX 3 is the third snowboard racing game in SSX series. Its development was initiated soon after SSX Tricky was released. Around two years later, the game was out in the public and became a surprise hit.

SSX 3 begins with an opening film that doesn’t just stop at trying to impress the audience but also to provide a quick overview on what kind of obstacles the player will have to go through in the game.

Features and Highlights

Most challenges in SSX 3 are split into Conquer the Mountain and Single Event. The challenges feel more exciting in this third installment because of, among others, the open world platform.

Conquer the Mountain is the main attraction, and Single Event is the game mode where you can compete in any track you have unlocked in the conquer mode. All the races takes place on one mountain that has three peaks, each of which has its own difficulty level.

At the start of the game, you can only race in the first peak. Since it is a beginner peak, the races have the lowest difficulty levels, but the money awards are not much either. There are three event types in the first peak, namely Race, Freestyle, and Freeride.

The Race event type consists of a number of events which include Snow Jam, Happiness, Metro City, and Peak 1 Race. The Freestyle event type has five events such as R&B, Happiness Jam, Crow’s Nest, The Junction, and Peak 1 Jam.

The Peak 2 can be unlocked by earning a medal either in all Race or Freestyle events, or collect money awards until you get $100,000 in total. Gold medal is for the first winner, silver medal is for the second winner, and bronze medal is for the third winner. Platinum medal is available too but only for special cases like exceeding certain scores.

Every peak has the same set of event types, but the event names are different, as well as the difficulty levels. As you move up to a higher peak, you will meet more difficult challenges that you have to complete to progress through the game.

Aside from the main goals, there are other goals that you can complete. Some of these goals do not have anything to do with the events.

The game offers several playable characters that the player can choose from before participating in any event. Those characters include Kaori Nishidake, Zoe Payne, Griff Simmons, Moby Jones, Viggo Rolig, Psymon Stark, Nate Logan, Elise Riggs, Mackenzie “Mac” Fraser, and Allegra Sauvagess. Six of them are returning characters, the rest are new characters. Cheat characters is also available for you to play but only after they are unlocked.
