Shin Megami Tensei – Persona 4 lets you control a teenage boy to uncover the truth behind the murders that take place in a town. In the process the boy has to explore dungeons and defeat monsters in a strange world. A world claimed to be a place that exists between reality and dream.

The game has three difficulty levels. The player should choose carefully since it cannot be changed once the game begins. The difficulty levels are Expert, Normal, and Beginner. The easiest level will give the player more advantages to finish the game.

Features and Highlights

Shin Megami Tensei – Persona 4 begins with the protagonist being sent to a town called Inaba where his uncle, Ryotaro Dojima, lives and works as a police detective. He attends a high school and soon he has a group of nice friends.

There is an urban legend that the boy learns that it is not a myth. It is real. According to the legend, anyone who stays awake at midnight and stares at a turned off TV will be able to witness something strange, but only on rainy days.

Midnight Channel is the name of the legend. Later in the game the protagonist finds out that he has the ability to go into the TV. He lets his friends know about his ability and afterward they all go into the TV together.

One day the town learns the shocking news of the death of a TV announcer. And soon another death follows. What makes the subsequent murder more frightening is that the victim is the one who finds the dead body of the TV announcer.

In the TV world, the protagonist and his friends are forced to use their combat abilities called Persona when they encounter monsters during the exploration of the world to find a way out. The game can still continue when a combatant loses all of the HP, but it will end the moment the protagonist loses all of his HP, unless the player chooses to play the game at the easiest level in which he can use a special item to revive the group.

What makes Shin Megami Tensei – Persona 4 different from its predecessor is that the player can control the party members, among other things. This new feature increases the survival rate of the protagonist, preventing him from dying too early in the game.

Every party member has standard and special attacks that can be used according to the situations. The standard attacks do not consume the HP or SP when they are used, but the special attacks do. A percentage of the HP is lost once a special attack is executed by a party member.

There are also other types of attacks but only the Personas can execute them, and every attack consumes the spiritual points (SP). So, sometimes the player needs a bit of strategy on which kinds of attacks that are best for certain situations. All in all, Shin Megami Tensei – Persona 4 is a fascinating role-playing game.
