Ever since its debut in 1996, Resident Evil has been a great game, even more so with the release of Resident Evil 4 on January 11, 2005. Many people believed that it brought a new experience that the previous releases lacked of.

Features and Highlights

The protagonist of the story is Leon S. Kennedy who investigates the whereabout of the US President’s daughter who has been abducted by some unknown group of people. It is his first mission as a US secret agent.

The investigation leads him to a remote town where the villagers are obviously more than just not happy with his presence. After only one very short and unfriendly conversation, the first villager attacks him out of nowhere. As the player who controls Leon, it will be your first fight in the game.

If you win the fight, do not breathe a sigh of relief yet. As soon as Leon peeks through the window, you will realize that there are more threats around. And when you go back to the location where the two officers are supposed to wait for your return, they are nowhere to find and the bridge is destroyed.

During the investigation, Leon is assisted with his only contact, a female character named Ingrid Hunnigan. Soon they learn the involvement of a dangerous cult group called Los Illuminados. One of them says that Leon carries the same blood as them, and from that moment on, it is obvious that the mystery is more than meets the eye.

As a secret agent who has received special training, Leon knows how to fight with bare hands, how to use a knife, and how to shoot with a gun. He carries a handgun that you can use to neutralize enemies. The handgun has a limited ammo supply, but you can get additional ammo by looting dead enemies.

In addition to the handgun, you can also use a riffle, shotgun, harpoon, machine gun, bowgun, and even a hand grenade. And what’s more, the weapons can be upgraded, except for the hand grenade. However, the upgrade will not be as easy as you might think as you have to make a tough decision sometimes between upgrading the power, fire speed, and ammo capacity.

In Resident Evil 4, the new control scheme is still somewhat inconvenient to shoot enemies but at least the improvement makes it easier than before. As a matter of fact, the game is not just a bit improved. The changes are revolutionary. And the number of sales obviously shows that a lot of people like the changes. The release has been considered as one that is capable of rewriting survival horror genres. The struggle that took so many years to develop Resident Evil 4 is well worth it.
