Need for Speed – Hot Pursuit 2 was developed for multiple platforms, but the one released for PlayStation 2 has the most game features of all. The release date was more than one decade ago. As suggested by the title, the game puts an emphasis on police chases.

The police will try to do anything they can to impede the illegal racers. Roadblocks and spike trips are just two of the tactics they use. Instead of getting afraid, the racers incorporate the pursuits as one of the challenging elements in competitions.

Features and Highlights

There is nothing more exciting than being chased down by dozens of police cars. Since they keep trying their best to arrest the illegal racers, let’s turn it into a race event. Such an event is called Hot Pursuit where the racers must win the races while in pursuit by the police.

Hot Pursuit consists of five event types: Point to Point, Single Race, Tournament, Lap Knockout, and Be the Cop. The last mentioned is where the player becomes the cop instead with a mission to arrest the racers. It is a time limited challenge. It gives the chance to the player to feel how it likes to be one chasing instead of being chased. The player who becomes a cop will be able to utilize the tactics that are usually used to chase and arrest illegal racers.

The five event types are made up of 33 events, each of which gives gold points to the winner as the reward. Lotus Elise Delivery, a point to point race, offers the lowest amount of rewards. The highest reward is 150000 points which can be obtained by winning McLaren F1 LM Delivery or German Showdown Tournament.

Roadblocks used by the police is fairly easy to spot from a distance but beware of the spike trips. The police even utilizes helicopter to drop them. However, the most dangerous weapon of all is the missiles. As the one being chased, the player must dodge the missiles not just to win the race but also to survive.

In addition to Hot Pursuit, there is Championship. It consists of six event types: Circuit Time Trial, Lap Knockout, Tournament, Knockout Race, Single Race, and Duel.

There are also bonus events that can be unlocked. The rewards are either unlocked events or cars such as Mercedes Benz CL 55 AMG, Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, Porsche Carrera GT Concept, Ferrari 360 Modena, and Ferrari 360 Spider.

Race Knockout is principally the same as Lap Knockout, but the participant who gets eliminated is not the last one in each lap, but the last one in each race. No matter which race to join in though, both of them offer the same exhilarating experiences for the player.

While evading the police chases is fun, being the one who chase the bad guys is no less thrilling. As a cop, you can ask for backup when chasing the street racers. All in all, Need for Speed – Hot Pursuit 2 is as fun as the other series.
