When Metal Slug Anthology was released, perhaps the fans of the video game were the happiest people on earth at the moment because it is a compilation made up of seven Metal Slug titles from the very first entry to Metal Slug 6.

Metal Slug is a sidescroller game where the player runs forward until the end of the road while shooting enemies that keep popping up from everywhere to take him down. The mission ends after the player defeats the boss.

Features and Highlights

In Metal Slug Anthology, the player is issued with a few weapons to start a mission. One of the weapons is a handgun. Even though it is a simple weapon, it has unlimited bullets. As the player moves forward, there are powerful weapons to be used. These weapons have limited ammo but the player will find the ammo throughout the missions.

Aside from the enemies, the player will also encounter a number of prisoners that will give bonuses upon rescue. Some of them will even help fighting the enemies.

Metal Slug Anthology has various characters. Marco Rossi and Tarma Roving makes their debuts in Metal Slug and are back in action in the sequel along with two new characters, Eri Kasamoto and Fio Germi.

New features are introduced in every entry of the series. In Metal Slug 2, some of the new features are the ability to transform, victory pose upon a mission completion, and character selection.

In Metal Slug X which was released after Metal Slug 2, the new features are the appearance of Dog Mummy, an upgraded vehicle with a better speed, and a number of weapons like Drop Shot, Enemy Chaser, Super Grenade, Iron Lizard, Armor Piercer, and Stone. Some of the weapons imported from the previous games are also enhanced.

In Metal Slug 3, the player has to choose one of the provided paths to complete the mission. Regardless of which path is selected, the path will lead to the boss, but each path has its own challenges.

In Metal Slug 4, new characters show up, replacing the roles of Eri Kasamoto and Tarma Roving as the major characters. The player can transform into a monkey and the vehicles have stronger defenses. Unlike in the previous games where slugs can take three hits, the slugs in this game can take up to four hits.

In Metal Slug 5, aside from the new slide-dash move, the two machine guns have more ammo, Eri Kasamoto and Tarma Roving are back, and more vehicles are added which include Slug Gunner, Augensterm, and Slug Mobile in addition to the returning vehicles.

As with the other Metal Slug versions, Metal Slug 6 has new features too. The new Weapon Stock allows the player to carry two weapons at once and switch weapons easily.

The game introduces Easy Mode and Hard Mode. Additionally, new slugs are present, such as Slug Digger which functions as a digger and helicopter, Rootmars Slug with 10mm Vulcan as its main weapon, and Donkey Slug with an infinite health.
