The debut of Grand Theft Auto – Vice City for PlayStation 2 took place in 2002. It is another commercial success in Grand Theft Auto series that has received various prestigious awards. Thanks to the open world design, players can roam the fictional city which consists of several islands, two of which are the main islands while the rest are smaller islands.

The development of the game was started in late 2001. The total budget to complete the project was US$5 million. In September 2002, Rockstar North announced the game to the public but PlayStation 2 owners in Japan must waited until 20 May 2004 to be able to enjoy the fun.

Features and Highlights

The story of the game follows Tommy Vercetti who is convicted of murder that puts him in jail for fifteen years. After he serves his punishment, he is involved in a drug deal under the order of his boss but an ambush is waiting.

Tommy, who barely escapes the ambush along with his partner in crime Ken Rosenberg, was threaten by his boss to retrieve the drugs and money. Left with no choice, Tommy investigates the ambush with the assistance of several people, including Lance Vance whose brother is killed in the ambush.

The investigation leads to a drug cartel owner named Ricardo Diaz. Lance believes that he is the culprit of the ambush and therefore tries to kill him, but he gets captured instead. Tommy saves him and then the pair work together to kill the drug baron. His asset is taken over by Tommy to build a new criminal empire.

Grand Theft Auto – Vice City has a lot of missions, 38 of which are the story missions. When you complete a mission, you may get some rewards. The Party mission, for example, will reward you 100 dollars and an access to the next mission, Back Alley Brawl.

Back Alley Brawl has more objectives than The Party. Overall there are eight objectives. The reward is a higher amount of money which is as much as 200 dollars.

When you do not want to complete any mission, you can explore the city either by vehicle or foot. There are a large variety of vehicles in the city. You can find vans such as Whoopee, Pony, Top Fun, and Gang Burrito. Two-door and four-door cars are plenty. Admiral, Oceanic, Sentinel XS, Sabre Turbo, Blista Compact, and a lot more. There are even industrial trucks like Benson, Linerunner, Spand Express, Boxville, and Mule.

The list of the available weapons is impressive too, ranging from a sniper rifle to a rocket launcher. Even drive-by shootings are not impossible to commit.
