Devil May Cry 3 is the third continuation of the series. Its release took place in 2005 for the console and it was yet another huge success with the number of sales reaching more than one million copies. While there are some complaints about its difficulty level, it has been the recipient of many positive reviews.

Dante is still the main playable character, and the game is still full of demon slashing actions and puzzles, but it features a younger and more arrogant version of him. Being the son of the legendary Sparda, he has a great power ever since he is a child.

Features and Highlights

Devil May Cry 3 begins with the main character eating a pizza while complaining about how he get calls when the shop isn’t even named yet. A mysterious individual enters the shop and gives him an invitation which is said to be from his twin brother, Vergil. WIthout giving Dante a chance to answer him, the individual vanishes, and shortly after a group of demons attack Dante inside his shop.

Players can choose which attack style Dante will use. The four basic styles are Trickster which makes Dante move faster, Swordmaster to slaughter the demons with sword attacks, Gunslinger to use the guns effectively and efficiently, and RoyalGuard which is the most powerful style. The last mentioned style is very hard to master, so it is not recommended for beginners.

In addition, extra styles are available later in the game after Dante beats certain enemies. One of the extra styles is Doppelganger Style which gives Dante the ability to create clones of himself. The enemy that he must defeat in order to get the style is Doppelganger the Deathvoid. While he is a formidable demon, he has a weakness, and that is the light.

And then there is also Quicksilver Style that Dante can use to slow down everything but himself. The requirement to obtain this cool style is to defeat the demonic horse named Geryon the Timesteed who appears in Mission 12 as the boss.

Throughout the game, there are numerous magical stones called orbs to help Dante in his journey. The Blue Orb, for instance, is a magical stone to extend the life bar. This orb can be found within missions or purchased from Divinity Statues or obtained by combining four Blue Orb Fragments.

Collecting the Yellow Orb is as important as the Blue Orb. This magical yellow stone has the power to bring back Dante to life when he dies and Dante is allowed to collect as many of them as necessary.

Dante also gets help from a fellow devil hunter, a dark-haired woman he calls Lady because she keeps her name secret. The supporting character has a fierce personality and a belief that all demons must be annihilated. The more time she spends with Dante, however, the belief is getting thinner. In the end, she finally accepts that demons and humans are the same in that they can be either good or evil.
