The momentum meter is one of the features of Def Jam – Fight for NY. If the meter is full, the player can use a move called Blazin’ Taunt. It is a powerful attack but only four moves are usable.

The brutality of the fight is probably one of the most interesting aspects in the game. The player can even play dirty by, for example, throwing the opponent into the crowd. When one of the fighters is too close with the crowd, sometimes they just attack the fighter. Even the use of a weapon is allowed. So, if there is a wooden bat in the fight, any of the fighters can use it to attack the opponent. What matters the most here is winning.

As for the fighter, the player can create one at the start of the game by specifying the height, weight, body type, skin tone, facial shape, eyes shape, eyes color, brows, nose, lips, ears, hair, facial hair, hair color, and voice.
