Call of Duty – Finest Hour is a 2004 first-person shooter game featuring a number of stories in three campaigns. It has several playable characters that the player can play one at a time. Which of them is available for the player to control depends on the story in progress.

Despite receiving critics over its poor graphics and sound, the game won a sales award, indicating of its positive trend of sales at the time.

Features and Highlights

Private Aleksandr Sokolov is the first playable character in the Soviet campaign. He follows Sergeant Oleg Puskov in his first and second missions, but a Germany sniper kills the sergeant. When he is cornered by the sniper, Tanya Pavelovna kills the sniper to save his life. She gives him a new mission afterward which he completes with a satisfying result. Impressed with his skill, she decides to make him her spotter.

As the two of them work together to eliminate the Germans as many as possible, the playable character changes to Tanya Pavelovna. In the middle of their fight, they receive a call for help from the crew of a lone tank, so they go to the location mentioned in the call through a sewer. Once they get there, they have to defend it for around ten minutes.

Nikolai Badanov is the one who leads the tank crew. He is the character that the player takes control in the next mission. He has to protect the tank while it is still in repair. He and his crew also participate in Operation Little Saturn to take over a German airfield. Tanya Pavelovna who helps them is assumed to be dead after taking a shot from an enemy.

The North Africa campaign has the least amount of levels with only four levels available from “Mission: Matmata” to “Raiding the Fortress”. In the first level of the campaign, the playable character is the British commando Sergeant Edward Carlyle. The mission is secure the main generator so that Carlyle can set the C4 charge on it.

“”A Desert Ride” is the third level of the North Africa Campaign. The player still takes control of Edward Carlyle where he has to shoot down a sniper and then use the machine gun to eliminate the other enemies who put a roadblock. Once the character accomplishes the objective, he will involve in a more violent battlefield.

The third campaign in the game begins with “First City to Fall”. The objective is to capture Aachen in Germany. The playable character in this mission is Lieutenant Chuck Walker who commands seven troops to execute the attack.

The mixed reviews of the game didn’t stop the fans from adding it into their game collection. Although its storyline is different from the original, it is still as enjoyable as the other titles in the franchise. The graphic quality is not particularly charming but it is not too disappointing either. Players who are up for a challenge can play the game at the hardest difficulty level.
